How We Review Tools

PM Help Tools helps you find the project management tool that fits your situation. This page explains what we look at, where our information comes from, how we describe and compare tools, and how we keep pages up to date.

What we look at

Every tool page covers the same points, so tools are easy to compare:

Where our information comes from

We've used a handful of the tools on this site intensively in real projects. For the others, we rely on vendors' official websites, pricing pages, and documentation, and on what we've learned from years of working with project management tools in general.

Readers also help: suggestions and corrections sent through the "Suggest a tool" form or our contact page are checked and, where they hold up, reflected on the site.

How we describe and compare tools

We don't rank tools as winners and losers. Every tool is built for certain teams and situations, so we describe what it does well, where it may not fit, and who it suits.

Comparison pages put two tools side by side: a feature table, pricing, strengths and trade-offs, and which kind of team each one suits. With our comparison tool you can line up any one to three tools yourself.

Alternatives pages and guides group tools by need ("if you want X, look at Y"), not by a single score, and category pages list tools in alphabetical order.

Pricing

Prices are checked manually on each vendor's pricing page, and every pricing section shows the month it was checked. We show prices the way the vendor shows them, including the currency, and note the billing period, taxes, and introductory offers where they apply.

When a vendor doesn't publish prices and only offers "contact sales", we don't show a pricing section rather than guess.

Keeping pages up to date

We review pricing and key product details in regular update rounds, at most once a month, and update a page whenever we find a change. Each tool page, comparison, and guide shows when it was last updated.

When a tool is renamed, acquired, or discontinued, we update or remove its page and redirect old links. For example, Roadmunk is now listed as Tempo Strategic Roadmaps, and Forecast, which became part of Accelo, now points to the Accelo page.

Affiliate links and independence

Some links on this site are affiliate links, and each one is labeled "Affiliate link". They never change how a tool is described, compared, or featured. Read more in our Affiliate Disclosure.
